THE PLEDGE

DIVERSITY INCLUSION INNOVATION

"We are committed to building practices and cultures that actively facilitate, cultivate and celebrate diversity and inclusion, at all levels, throughout our organisation, and our industry"

OUR COMMITMENT TO A DIVERSE & INCLUSIVE INDUSTRY

The Pledge is a commitment made by LEGASEA and Signatory organisations to work together to build a Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive yachting industry. Organisations that sign the pledge represent our industry's change-makers and leaders within this global movement.

The Pledge reflects a global aspiration to see Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at all levels realised, as highlighted specifically by SDG's 5 & 10 ( Gender Equality & Reduced Inequalities) . A diverse workforce is widely recognised to significantly outperform any other. Areas of particular relevance to our industry, beyond that of ethical standards and overall sustainability, include economic performance, improved work cultures, innovation and return on invested capital.

What is the Pledge?

The Pledge recognises that to create the systemic change required in all interlinked sectors, we must use our collective intelligence to innovate unique solutions. The Pledge creates industry-wide action and is a commitment made by LEGASEA and Signatory organisations to work together to build a Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive  Superyacht industry.

"We are committed to building practices and cultures that actively facilitate, cultivate and celebrate diversity and inclusion, at all levels, throughout our organisation, and our industry"

While acknowledging that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight, the Pledge signifies the first step in the journey. Combining short term goals, quick wins and long term strategies, transparency and accountability are emphasised and embedded at each stage.

In signing the Pledge, Signatories commit to 4 key resolutions:

Data on a Touch Pad

Building a truly data-driven understanding of Social Impact

As part of the LEGASEA social impact strategy, we analysed the data and feedback gathered from our initial Signatories from the 2020-2021 period. It became clear there was a real thirst for knowledge, direction and support to ensure the external commitment of the Pledge resulted in aligned, data-driven action. Given that this is a relatively new frontier for many in our industry, this provided the opportunity for us to highlight global best practices and access to the tools and processes required for deeply embedded change across our sector. The Impact Academy is the central learning and support hub for Signatory organisations as they embark on their social impact journey.

Signatory Fundamentals Programme

The Signatory Fundamentals Program is the first and has been developed based on these initial findings and feedback. As the name would suggest, it focuses on establishing foundations: the understanding of core concepts and taking action.

Each module of the course is designed around providing context, learning and step by step actions that ultimately result in a clear path forward for your organisation. This path forward will guide Signatories to create and identify unique and tangible actions, targets and outcomes specific to your stakeholders, goals and overall business strategy. The emphasis is on cultivating transparency and accountability throughout this journey and eliminate the risk of ‘sustainability, pink, rainbow washing’ both internally and externally. To find our more about Signatory Fundamentals course visit  our Impact Academy.

After completing the Signatory Fundamentals Program you will achieve Social Impact Organisation status.

BE PART OF THE CHANGE

Who can Pledge?

The support of all organisations or individuals that are involved with or neighbouring the yachting industry is welcomed.  The more diverse the voices, the more united our industry action will be.

To ensure your organisation is able to meet its commitments to the four Pledge resolutions, it is a requirement to have fifteen or more full-time employees. The exceptions are crew agents and training providers.

Organisations that do not currently meet this requirement,  along with synergetic NGO's and initiatives, are welcomed to support the Pledge in the capacity of Supporting Organisation. The intake for Supporting Organisations will be launched in 2022.
